Primary Session
Luke 10:1-12, 17-20
Let us pray.
Dear Jesus,
thank you for sharing your good news with us.
Help us to share it with others by what we say and do.
In your name we pray.
Amen.
The topic for today’s session is spreading the good news of Jesus. Begin by writing the words “Good News” in large print on top of a chalkboard or poster. Invite the children to brainstorm what they think of as good news. Discuss:
Allow time for discussion. We all like to hear good news and share it with others. The first followers of Jesus shared the good news about Jesus.
In the gospel reading listen to learn who spread the good news about Jesus.
Read Luke 10:1-12, 17-20.
Allow for silence.
Provide 2-3 minutes of background information on the gospel.
In the gospel today Jesus sends his followers out on a mission. They are to cure the sick and spread the good news about the kingdom of God. Jesus wants his followers to help each other, so he sends them out in pairs. They are to bring peace to every home that they enter. Jesus warns his followers that in some homes they may not be welcome.
The followers of Jesus go out to spread the good news about Jesus. They cure the sick and expel demons from those who are afflicted. They return to Jesus filled with excitement and joy because they helped to build God’s kingdom on earth. Jesus tells his followers that their names are written in heaven and they will be with God forever.
[If you are not going to continue with the doctrinal discussion, proceed to the Gospel in Life.]
God loves us and saves us through Jesus. Jesus Christ is the good news of God. The Church spreads the good news of Jesus throughout the world.
As followers of Jesus we are called to tell other people the good news about Jesus.
Is there someone you know who needs to hear good news? Tell them the good news about Jesus this week.
